car snaps: love over long distance
I love capturing that dazy roadtrip feeling on film from the sunny backseats of my friends' cars.
i think there’s something strangely intimate about cars.
as a disclaimer: i don’t drive, so please realise i’m speaking as a full time passenger prince. but isn’t there something kind of magical about the space you share with the people you’re travelling with?
some of the music i’ve heard and conversations i’ve had in friends’ cars have been some of the most memorable of my life. snippets of lovely moments scattered across roads up and down the world. if a trip feels worth capturing, i’ll try to take a quick snap of my POV from wherever i am in the car.
if you recognise your car please know i’ve obviously very much enjoyed our time together in your vehicle, and i value the time we spend travelling together.
(also thanks for the lift, wherever it was to.)
all snapped on 35mm film, on various cameras.
i shared a bunch of these on tumblr on a whim a couple of years ago and they resonated with a LOT of people!
backseat photography definitely falls into the category of POV/slice of life photography that i adore. everyone can relate to rumbling down a motorway with some of your favourite people in the front seats - even if these pictures are very personal to me, I think there’s a shared memory quality to my pictures that everyone can appreciate. even more so if you’re in aotearoa.
